Adam Meister, Vice President Development, The Howard Hughes Corporation
“We presented a thorough, detailed explanation of the concept plan for rezoning that we submitted to the West Windsor Planning Board in February to redevelop our 653-acre property, known as the former American Cyanamid site at the intersection of Route 1 and Quakerbridge Road. While throughout the process we have had ongoing interaction with West Windsor residents and business owners, this hearing was the first opportunity we had to present our vision to West Windsor Township officials as part of the concept plan review process.
We appreciate the level of interest and community engagement during the meeting and the feedback we received from the community. As a result, we will carefully consider their suggestions and recommendations as our plan develops. We were also pleased to have had the opportunity to dispel myths and misconceptions that had been circulating about the site and the concept plan.
While we would have preferred to receive feedback from members of the Planning Board last night, we understand there is much community interest in our property and it was important to allow time for the public to voice their opinions. We look forward to dialogue with and feedback from the Planning Board, the township professional staff and stakeholders in the coming weeks and at a follow-up public meeting in July.
This valuable piece of property has languished for too long due to obsolete buildings and inappropriate zoning, and in its current state cannot contribute in any meaningful way to West Windsor. The responsible redevelopment of this site needs to be led by a company with our experience, our expertise in mixed-use development and master planned communities, and our level of financial stability. Building for the future of West Windsor requires responsible action by the stakeholders, the community and Howard Hughes.”
